The 4th annual Chippawa Polar Bear Dip took place recently. Over 100 brave souls took the plunge to raise funds for the Chippawa Public Docks Committee Boat Ramp Improvement Project. Norah-Jean Howard reports.

Mason, of the Chippawa public docks committee, said more than $110,000 was spent between public fundraising and the city of Niagara Falls to bring a second dock to the north side of the Welland River, adjacent to the Weightman Bridge.

NEW BOAT DOCK TO BE BUILT IN CHIPPAWA

On Monday, city council endorsed the concept for a fixed dock to be built on the north side of the Welland River, along Front St., adjacent to the Weightman Bridge.

Councillors and staff say the project, expected to cost $130,000, will beautify the waterfront and provide tourists with additional opportunities to access businesses in the village. In addition, the dock will provide emergency personnel with better access to the river.
